“…the people did not believe it was live.”

October 18th, 2009

The question of whether an event should be web cast live or on demand is often raised.

In many cases the merits of ‘live’ are outweighed by the comfort of being sure all is as everyone concerned would like it to be before uploading.  This month we delivered a live webcast for Stryker, a global leader in medical technology, through our friends Jigzaw Live Event Solutions, where the client was adamant it had to be live. So live it was!

Steve MacMillan, the CEO and President of the Company was touring Stryker offices around the globe, but physically couldn’t get everywhere. It was decided therefore that some of the European offices would log into a live web cast of his presentation at the UK headquarters in Newbury, England.

All went well and we were delighted to receive an email from a Senior Manager in the Stryker European IT function based at one of the receiving countries stating;

“…the people did not believe it was live. There was no delay and it was well synched with motion and sound. There was even no fading with rapid hand movements. All together, it was a big success. Also the bandwidth graphs looked well.”

The fact is, when it really does have to be live, it is great to be operating a system that can deliver the goods at bandwidths that won’t negatively affect the client’s network. The whole purpose of BeThere is to make web casting easy and accessible; be it live or otherwise. For Stryker that is exactly what we did.

ACE Conference and Events Industry get-together

September 18th, 2009

A couple of weeks back we were invited to give a short presentation at the ACE (Association for Conferences and Events) evening that was held at London venue The Window last night.

The get-together also featured two other speakers showcasing their technology, and followed the last meeting of the group where business futurist Rohit Talwar had talked about the importance for the events industry of integrating new technologies in order to survive. Of course as ‘part of the deal’ we were delighted to record the presentations!

The evening was well attended and featured excellent catering by The Window.

Here’s Oscar in action recording the presentations which are reproduced below.

First off Gordon Lyster of Events and Publishing and organiser of the meetup got things rolling by introducing Tim Woolford of Trek Wireless

Next up yours truly…

…and finally Luke Glen of Spot iD

If you have an interest in the UK conference and events industry, you could do a lot worse than to come along to a future get-together!

A simple way to promote conference content

July 29th, 2009

A long term BeThere client, The Association of Advanced Wound Care, is promoting the content from their recent conference by mailing their 5,500 members with a link to an agenda featuring two minute sampler video clips of all the conference recordings. Sales of the recordings are already healthy, but this simple approach is sure to give them a boost. Another simple way to get more from your conferences by unlocking the inherent value of the content.

As you can see they are also promoting future events as well.

Association Congress… all about adding value for members

July 27th, 2009

Two weeks ago BeThere recorded the Association Congress 09 event at London’s Excel Conference Centre. This congress was aimed at association organizers and association management companies and provided vital information, ideas and inspiration as to how associations need to change and grow in order to add value and retain a flourishing membership.

All three tracks conference tracks – around 30 presentations – were recorded over the two day event.

There were some excellent presentations and we have compiled a  “Best of Association Congress 09″ from some of our favourites.

Beyond the canapes and cocktails

June 16th, 2009

Thanks for visiting BeThereGlobal.com.

If you haven’t gleaned from other pages on this site what BeThere is all about, let me explain a little.

BeThere is a new platform for video recording conferences and presentations and making them available over the web with no costly post production work. ‘Webcasting’ if you like, although in the past this term for many people has smacked of high cost, inflexibility and a lot of confusion. The BeThere solution is none of these!

Flexibility is everything

Flexibility
Flexibility is central to the many benefits our system offers. In a nutshell BeThere enables a conference or content owner to easily and simultaneously record both the live action (speaker, panel, Q&A etc.) and the on screen presentation in high quality video, ready to deliver over the Internet. We take a direct feed from the presentation computer, so no chasing speakers for their PowerPoints. If the presenter decides to surf the web, demonstrate software or run video content – whatever they do on the presentation computer – we capture it perfectly synchronized with their speech on video as one continuous Flash Video stream. This can be streamed live or on demand.

We believe the concept is set to reinvent the conference web casting market and the effects will be far reaching.

And this is the time for BeThere, with corporate travel budgets being cut and people thinking twice for environmental as well as cash reasons before getting on a plane or travelling anywhere, it was interesting to read an article posted  last week on the Daily Telegraph’s website  The article reports that the International Air Transport Association (IATA ) cites, alongside a continuing recession and rising fuel prices, improvements in video conferencing technology as threats to the airline industry! While web casting has a somewhat different application to video conferencing, the key benefit is similar; it enables a remote audience to virtually attend an event.

Of course the smart conference and event owners will not follow IATA’s lead and see this as a threat; rather it is an exciting opportunity to be embraced.

There is no way that the on-line or virtual experience of a conference or presentation will ever replace the experience of actually being there; rubbing shoulders with the movers and shakers, grazing on the canapés and soaking up the sponsored drinks receptions and those all important face-to-face conversations. But it does mean that the many interested people who, for any number of reasons, would not or could not have attended physically, are able to see, hear, benefit and learn from the content remotely.

This represents a vast opportunity for any forward thinking conference organiser or event owner. This is their chance to open up massive new audiences who otherwise would have been beyond their reach.

Beyond the physical experience,  web casting with BeThere represents a vast array of previously unimagined new opportunities.

Please watch this space and share in the excitement!
